Five Perthshire day trips for the whole family

Five Perthshire day trips for the whole family

Make the most of your time in Perthshire, pack a backpack and head out for the day. There are plenty exciting locations to visit but here are five that we think should be top of your list.

Tay Forest Park – just outside Dunkeld

This park is not just any park, it holds some of the most picturesque views in Perthshire and maintains the mystery and tranquility of Scotland.

Pack yourself a picnic and bask in the glories that Tay Forest Park has to offer or pop into the café at the visitor centre for a cake or two. No matter what the season the Queen’s View Visitor Centre offers breathtaking views over Mount Schiehallion.

Aberfeldy – 17.5 miles from Dunkeld

A small town with plenty of character. From offroad experiences to tasting and learning about whisky from a local distiller, there is plenty to do on a day trip to Aberfeldy.

If you’re after a different kind of outdoor experience then you can join a nature and wildlife tour. This safari-like experience will let you see some of the wonders of the Perthshire countryside.

Scone – 16.2 miles from Dunkeld

Home to the crowning place of Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II, this historic town is perfect if you’re after a bit of culture.  Not only is the palace a must-visit but, if you’re lucky enough to get a dry day, then the vast grounds are worth exploring.

With beautifully designed gardens and ever so curious peacocks, twist and turn your way through the tartan maze. There is even a great adventure playground for kids to enjoy.

Pitlochry – 13.3 miles from Dunkeld

If you’re after an adrenaline pumping experience, then Pitlochry is the place for you.

Take a leap of faith with the Highland Fling bungee jump. This 40-metre freefall experience offers not only blood pumping thrill but a breathtaking view. Heights not your strong point? Not to worry, there are plenty of watersports to give you your adrenaline fix. From white water rafting to water tubing there is something for everyone, no matter your capabilities.

Perth – 14.4 miles from Dunkeld

Take to the skies in a hot air balloon or hit the race course, when you visit ‘the ancient capital of Scotland’ there really is something for everyone. Whether you plan your day in advance or take a spur of the moment trip, Perth has a wide range of activities that are fun for the whole family, no matter the weather.
